A smell of revenge

  • David Mele

FCG lost to Perpignan three times last season

The FCG welcomes Perpignan on Saturday at the Stade des Alpes. Beaten 3 times last season by the Catalans, especially in the Pro D2 final, the "Rouge & Bleu" are being offered the opportunity for a little revenge, as both teams are looking for their first victory this season in the Top 14.

The star player

25 caps for the Irish team, winner of the 2014 VI Nations: USAP has signed a big deal by recruiting Paddy Jackson this summer. The Celtic opener has adapted perfectly to the Top 14 by already being decisive for his club (he has scored half of Perpignan's points since the beginning of the season)

The former Grenoble player

David Mélé joined USAP, his first club, this summer. The versatile player had played two seasons in the Isère jersey, participating in both the Club's relegation and promotion in Top 14. In particular, he brightly played in the Access Match against Oyonnax (a try and an assist in the first 10 minutes). Injured in the arm, he may still not be able to return to the Stade des Alpes on Saturday.

The last match between the 2 teams

The last game between the two sides at the Stade des Alpes took place last January. The FCG had lost (17-24) with two blows of fate: a whimsical rebound over Burton Francis and a lost ball by David Mélé. Lolagi Visinia and Alaska Taufa scored in both of the FCG's tries.

The last games

Like Grenoble, USAP have lost 4 of their matches. The Perpignan team lost at home to Stade Français (15-46) and then to Agen (25-23). They also conceded a defeat against Lyon to Aimé Giral (16-22) and then to La Rochelle last weekend (37-10).

Upcoming matches

On the 6th day, Perpignan will host Montpellier for the derby, then travel to Pau, before the European break.
