Leva Fifita with Tonga, Andrei Ostrikov with Russia
Two players will represent the FCG at the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan. Leva Fifita and Andrei Ostrikov were selected for the Tonga and Russian teams respectively.
Leva Fifita has been the centrepiece of the Grenoble pack since his arrival in December 2017, and is also a member of the Tongan national team. He will play his first World Cup in Japan, and should be opposed to the French team. The two teams are in Pool C and will compete on October 6 in Kumamoto. Tonga will start the competition on September 22nd at Sapporo Dome against England. The other opponents in Pool C will be Argentina and the United States.
Andrei Ostrikov, who joined the Russian group after a few days in Grenoble in June, will participate in his second World Cup, after the 2011 one, where he had not played any matches, even if he was travelling to New Zealand. Russia will open the competition with a first game against Japan on 20 September in Tokyo. In Group A, the Russians will also face Ireland, Scotland and Samoa.
Several former "Rouge & Bleu" players will also compete in the World Cup: Latu Talakai with Tonga, Chris Farrell with Ireland and Beka Gigashvili with Georgia.
