Grenoble lost in Montauban (21-13)

The "Red & Blue" had the opportunity to regain the lead of the Pro D2 championship this Friday, if they managed to beat Montauban, stuck at the end of the standings. Weary, after 30 minutes without fambloyances, but solid, the Isèrois gradually faded away to let Montauban win.

The start of the match was nevertheless in favour of the Isèrois, who played their part perfectly. After two failures, Gaëtan Germain finally opened the scoring and rewarded this good start to the game (0-3, 22'). He added a second after Bosviel had equalised (3-6, 31'). The Montauban rearguard equalised a second time on the horn, again to reward his team for a good first-half performance (6-6, 40').

The return from the changing rooms will be very complicated for the "Red & Blue". Unable to regain possession of the ball, they were subjected to good play at the feet of Graou, Aviata and Bosviel. The Montauban striker, replaced at the end of the match by Matthy, was able to put the scoreline on the scoreboard (9-6, 47', 12-6, 58'; 15-6, 67', 18-6, 71', 21-6, 76'). With nearly 20 penalties conceded, it was impossible for Grenoble to win.

At the end of the game, on the Grenoble side's second foray into the 22-team field (moments earlier, Eric Escande was on the verge of scoring his first try with FCG), Deon Fourie, well-served on the blind side, scored the only try of the game (21-13, 80').

With this defeat, FCG remains on the last step of the podium, 3 points behind Colomiers and 2 points behind Perpignan. The Isèrois will host Biarritz next Thursday at the Stade des Alpes.
