No solution for FCG

  • Deon Fourie
  • Taleta Tupuola

Grenoble lost in Oyonnax (40-21)

The FCG had a copious program this Thursday, before going on vacation for a mini-trip of 15 days, with a trip to Oyonnax.

The "Red & Blue" got into the game perfectly by quickly scoring two penalties (0-6, 5'), before the inevitable Deon Fourie scored a fourth try in four games (0-13, 10'). After 10 minutes of play, the Isèrois took the game by the good end, and we can see them making a big move on the field of Charles Mathon.

But it is Oyonnax who decides to wake up. During the remaining 70 minutes, the Ain players played perfectly, thanks to its hinge, and managed to reduce the score (10-13, 21'), then to pass in front of the Isèrois on the half-hour mark (17-13, 31'). The gap remained the same at half-time after a penalty from each of the goalscorers (20-16, 40').

The second half starts on the same basis. The " Rouge & Bleu " are unable to hold the ball in the opposing camp and it is Oyonnax who gets the balls back and widens the gap with penalties (26-16, 57'). The last quarter of an hour is even more complicated for the FCG players, who offer the offensive bonus to their opponents, with two tries conceded in quick succession (40-16, 72'). On a final, and ultimately the only, chance for the Grenoble side in the second half, Taleta Tupuola scored the second try for FCG, depriving the home side of their attacking bonus. A lesser evil for the " Rouge & Bleu " who keep their third place in the standings, and the advantage over his opponent of the evening in direct confrontations.

This defeat confirms the Grenoble outfit's stalemate at this time of the season, which could see Colomiers and Perpignan slip to the top two places.
