"Looking for something good"

  • Karim Qadiri

After passing through the Stade Français training centre and then the Fédérale 1, Karim Qadiri arrived this summer in Grenoble and at FCG. Discovery of a winger with an atypical career path

You arrived a few weeks ago, but it's your first morning at the club (interview conducted on July 2nd).

"I was working out with the band. So this is a second contact. Because I'd already seen them at some of the meetings. That's cool. I was looking forward to it. I've been in Grenoble since June 13th. So I couldn't wait to get back with the band. And to be able to talk to the guys. "

Will you have a specific program?

"It's a little complicated. Because I come from a federal structure. So it doesn't follow NRL protocol. So now I'm gonna have three weeks where I'm gonna be away from the band. It's definitely not easy, but those are the rules. "

Can you tell us about your journey to Grenoble?

"I was born in Massy. So I started playing rugby in Massy when I was 6. Until I was 20. After that, I played two years at the Stade Français. Of which one year at the training centre. And then I was at Beaune in Federal 1 for two years."

Alongside your rugby career, you also studied nursing. Where are you at with this double project?

"I graduated in 2017. So it was a bit complicated because it wasn't always easy to organise myself between the two. So those three years were a bit complicated at the rugby level. But, in the end, it didn't go too badly. Because, in the end, here I am, I graduated. "

You've been working the last few months, at the height of the outbreak?

"I worked a few days on replacements when I went back home to Massy. I worked four, five days. It was a little hot, but I was okay. It was warmer for me, because I hadn't practiced for a long time. It was warmer for me, because I hadn't practiced for a long time, than for the Covid, because I wasn't in the department where it had a big impact. "

How was your arrival, your signature with the FCG?

"In Grenoble, it happened very quickly, very early in the season. There wasn't much time to think about it. It was done quite quickly. I think I came to visit the facilities at the end of October and November. And I had signed at the end of December. So it was done super early. And it was announced early. "

Why did you agree to come to Grenoble?

"Honestly, I didn't ask myself many questions. I saw that the club was already putting a lot of emphasis on young people. It's a very young group. And the game behind it, it's still super interesting. The wingers seem to be enjoying themselves, though. And when I came to visit all the athletics, physical preparation, and field-related activities, everything was super coordinated. Really, I didn't really ask myself that question before I came. "

What kind of player are you?

"I played a little in the back. Basically, I'm a winger. Ninety percent wing, I guess you could say. And 10% fullback. A little bit of everything. I like to score a lot, I guess you could say. I like to score. A bit like all wingers, I think. And, no, I prefer overflow balls, rather than the little balls on the ground, where you have to sneak in. Since I'm tall, I prefer dueling, when I have a little space. To be able to extend the legs, or, if necessary, to go inside. "

What are your goals this season?

"It's going to be to have as much fun as possible. A maximum amount of playing time. And the rest will follow. After that, with the group we have, I think there's a way to look for something. Something good. "
