"Everyone is in the right state of mind"

  • Benjamin Hand

A few days before the derby against LOU, Ben Hand talks about the beginning of the season for the FCG.

The beginning of the season is not ideal?

"We are disappointed with our start of the season. But we made a good review on the game of la Rochelle Monday morning. We found positive things in this game. The conquest was good, but we missed 2, 3 opportunities late in the game. We should be much more accurate than what we were."

What are these positives things?

"The conquest was good. The attitude of everyone too. Unfortunately we gave two gifts to la Rochelle. Everyone is in the right state of mind. Now there is a big challenge that awaits us on Saturday in Lyon."

How can you reassure the fans after those two losses?

"We talked about it in the locker room after the game of la Rochelle. We spoke again this week in training. It's really early in the season! The advantage is that if you lose a few games, we can find out why and make things right away. It's really early in the season. The Top 14 is a marathon. We will improve things each week, starting Saturday."

You've played Lyon in a friendly in Lesdiguières (19-17 for FCG). You expect the same type of game?

"It will be a different game. But this is a game that will be difficult. Le LOU is a good team, really beefy up front. It will be a big challenge for us on Saturday. "

How do you work with other locks?

"We have different profiles. We are working well together. The old trying to help the younger ones. There is a very good spirit in the group of locks. Mickaël, Thomas and Mathias have a very good attitude, ready to learn a lot. Aly is a leader in the team. He has a lot of experience, especially in the line-out, or in the current play. Connacht plays with a system similar to ours and he is familiar with it. It really brings a lot of experience. It's good for us ! "

And with Aaron Dundon?

"It's a New Zealander! It is difficult for us Aussies, after the two games of Bledisloe Cup! But he sets up a lot of new systems. I think we have just started to implement things. Against La Rochelle, the conquest worked, but the challenge for us is to be consistent. Each week, we will work hard with Aaron. He is very good with our young  propsand all the players of the front rows. "
