The Grenoblois played their first pre-season game against the LOU in Vienna
The weather was particularly summery in Vienna: big blue sky, great sunshine and great heat on Etcheberry Stadium. Maybe it was a little bit because of the heat that Grenoble had trouble getting into the game.
The LOU quickly opened the score after a low kick behind the FCG defense (5-0). During the first quarter, the "Rouge & Bleu" can not control the ball and suffer the Lyon assaults. But they show a great solidarity in defense.
In the second quarter, the Lyonnais put a stroke by scoring a second try, under the posts (12-0). It was then that the Grenoble finally took the game on their own. On their first foray into the opposites 22, Bastien Guillemin and Clément Gelin combine well to send Edgar Bazin into the in-goal. After a great fight on the ground with his opposite, the young winger of the FCG scores (12-5).
The third quarter is largely dominated by the FCG. After several possessions in the Lyon 22 and a yellow card for the Lyon number 9, the FCG marks a second try in power, thanks to Etienne Fourcade (12-12).
The FCG even took the lead after a superb combination between Nigel Hunt and Taiso Silafai-Lea'ana. The latter recorded his first attempt in "Rouge & Bleu" (12-17).
At the end of the match, the Grenoblois logically drop their foot and take two tries (26-17). In spite of a final attempt, the FCG eventually yields 9 points.
The next meeting for Grenoble is for Thursday, with a trip to Oyonnax for the second game of preparation.
