After several weeks of preparation and 3 friendly matches, the FCG starts its championship Sunday in Dax. Stéphane Glas analyzes this first game and the ambitions of the club for the coming season
Are the "Red & Blue" ready for the first game of Pro D2?
"I do not think we're ready as we can be, I hope, in one or two months, but it's the same for the teams we play against. Even if we had an offseason that was quite long, everyone did not resume at the same time: one group resumed on 19 June, another on 26 and one on 3 July. We did not have everyone at the same time, but we still had enough time to work well and prepare quite serenely this start of the season. I think it's pretty much the same thing on the Dacquois side, even though their numbers have shifted much less than ours. There's what we did in training, on the friendly games. Then we will see what it will give on the field for the official matches. I hope we are ready. It must be in any case. "
Dax had started very well last season ...
"I have no doubt about the Dacquois' ability to be ready. Last year they had a very good start to the season: they (Oyonnax) had beaten, they won in Perpignan. I believe that after 4 or 5 days of championship, they were in the first 4. It is a club that must necessarily make a good start to the season because they are not very rich in terms of their bench, their numbers. When the matches follow, with the wounds, fatigue, it is a team that, in the low of the season, may, perhaps, have difficulties. These teams play a lot on the start of the season, to start a good start and to pocket a maximum of points. We are warned, we know what to expect, we must be surprised at nothing. I think the aggressiveness they will put in there, all they will do to take 4 points. You have to be surprised at nothing. I expect a very difficult game. "
Do you agree with the "Favorite" label sticking to the back of the FCG?
"Depends how much you put on favorites. If we put only one, I do not really agree. If we put 4, 5, yes, we are in the favorites. But with others. All alone, no. There are too many teams that can qualify for the climb, the qualification. Six teams will qualify, I think 7, 8, 9 can qualify and I think 4, 5 can really claim the climb. "
This championship of Pro D2 will not be a part of pleasure ...
"It will be hard every weekend, even at home. (With Oyonnax) we played 30 games last year, we finished first and we went directly. Quite honestly, I think we had 3 easy games, that is, at half-time we knew the game was bent. All the rest of the time, it was difficult matches. Even when we took the bonus point, I think we had taken 7 or 8. And on these 7 or 8 offensive bonuses, there are 4 or 5 that we had to go in the last 5 minutes , To the siren, in difficulty. I expect that! "
