Grenoble get the draw in Agen

  • Gaëtan Germain

After a penalty converted by Gaëtan Germain, Grenoble will come back from Agen with 2 points

We were expecting a closed match between two maintenance competitors, who were competing on the eighth day of the Top 14. The two teams went head to head for 80 minutes, where defences took over from attacks.

The "Rouge & Bleu" started the match well and opened the scoring with a penalty from Gaëtan Germain (0-3, 22'). The Grenoble team are rather dominant, but are struggling to find the gaps in the opposing line. After this penalty from the Grenoble rear, the Agenais came out of their den and managed to prove dangerous, but could only equalize before the break (3-3, 33')

The start of the second half was in favour of the Agenais. The latter took advantage of the Grenoble team's lack of discipline to score (6-3, 48'). If the locals dominate and even camp, sometimes, in the 22 Grenoble area, they struggle to achieve, as shown by this penalty against the posts, out of the 22, missed by McIntyre. In the process, Gaëtan Germain allowed his team to return to the same level as his opponent (6-6, 61')

The "Red & Blue" are too clumsy to be dangerous. And it is Agen who is taking advantage of this by once again benefiting from a hot situation on the FCG test line. This long sequence will finally end with a penalty (9-6, 73'). The Grenoble people will finally find the fault. On an action initiated by Franck Pourteau, Pablo Uberti found Daniel Kilioni. The winger arrived close to the 22 opponents, but did not serve Fabien Alexandre at height. The ball arrives on the other wing and the FCG concedes a forward. On this last scrum, the forwards, dominators in this sector, will exert a final pressure to obtain the penalty. Transformed after the siren by Gaëtan Germain (9-9, 80')

With this draw, the FCG is guaranteed to stay out of the relegation zone, whatever the result of Toulon on Sunday, a week away from hosting Clermont at the Stade des Alpes.
