Another "Classique" at the Stade des Alpes

Grenoble will host Perpignan

It has almost become a classic in French rugby: for the last 3 seasons, Grenoble and Perpignan have been fighting for the same goals (climbing or holding) and therefore regularly meet in high intensity matches. This will be the case again on Thursday in the Isère arena. With a symbolic stake (waiting for more, later in the season?): first place in the championship.

It is the Catalans who are currently in charge of the Pro D2. After a somewhat sluggish start to the season, the USAP has found its cruising speed: they have lost just one match since 14 November and a short defeat at Oyonnax. The balance of this period: 8 games, 7 victories including the one against Grenoble in Aimé Giral (20-13).

The main strength of the USAP is its attacking game: 555 points and 66 tries scored since the beginning of the season, Perpignan is simply the best at this level. FCG, the second leading attacker in the championship, has scored 505 points and 55 tries. But, far from Aimé Giral, the Perpignan players are struggling to win: 16 points taken for 3 wins, against 22 points and 5 wins for FCG and 26 points and 6 wins for Colomiers. The Grenoble side would be inspired not to allow their opponents on Thursday to improve their away performances.

Latest results

Perpignan won against Aurillac (38-18), lost at Mont-de-Marsan (34-14), then made up for it against Carcassonne (53-10).

Next games

For this second block of 2020, the USAP will go to Biarritz next week, welcome Rouen and go to Montauban.

The last FCG - Perpignan

In the Top 14 in September 2018, the "Rouge & Bleu" had won 31-22, with only one try scored by FCG (Raymond Rhule). Gaëtan Germain had secured the other 26 points.
