FCG could not do better than a draw against Biarritz (13-13)
The Grenoble supporters left the Stade des Alpes in a state of gloom. Their side lost points after drawing with Biarritz, who were even one penalty short of a late opener, to win the match.
Never in the course of the match did the "Red & Blue" constantly stumble over the Basque defence: lack of precision, lack of cohesion, too much individual initiative, indiscipline... Despite leading for a long time thanks to a penalty from Enzo Selponi (3-0, 12'), the Grenoble side finally returned to the dressing room 4 points behind, conceding a try on the siren (3-7, 40').
The second period is of the same accustom, even if Deon Fourie scores Grenoble's first try of the game after a long sequence in the 22 opponents (10-7, 53'). The Isère players then failed to control the match and quickly saw the Biarrots score again (10-10, 58', then 10-13, 63'). After many substitutes came on, Grenoble finally got going and equalised (13-13, 68'), but they were still too clumsy and unlucky (Ange Capuozzo was injured on a trial run).
On a final penalty, Nick Smith has the opportunity to give the victory to his team. Luckily, the ball runs to the left of the posts.
The draw, which sounded like a defeat, confirmed FCG's current difficulties in the depths of winter. We'll have to hold on and do much better for the last game of the block next Thursday in Oyonnax, to avoid the risk of Perpignan and Colomiers escaping.
