FCG played its first preparation game against Toulon in the Var and got a draw (38-38)
More than 5 months after the last game played by the professional rugby players of the French championship, Toulonnais and Grenoble were eager to get back on the field this Friday, for their first game in preparation for the 2020-2021 season.
Both teams played a thrilling game during three 30-minute periods. While there were a few mistakes during the game, the players showed a particularly combative spirit, as evidenced by the few clashes that took place. Nevertheless, the restart game was particularly enjoyable to watch, especially for the Isèrois fans.
Picked up cold by the Toulon players on the first ball, the "Rouge & Bleu" then put a lot of intensity into their defence to take advantage of the Var errors. FCG finished the first period in the lead (19-21), thanks to three tries scored by Karim Qadiri, Lucas Dupont and Eric Escande, all transformed by Jonathan Bousquet.
Grenoble took advantage of the second period to increase their lead (26-31), with a try from Ange Capuozzo and kicks from Romain Trouilloud and Corentin Glénat.
Finally, Toulon finished the game stronger and got a draw (38-38), despite a last try for Grenoble, scored by Benito Masilevu.
This first positive game will be followed next week by an opposition match against Valence-Romans at the Stade Georges Pompidou, then the reception of Oyonnax at the Stade Lesdiguières at the end of August.
