FCG beat Oyonnax for the last game of the pre-season (25-16)
After multiple twists and a 48-hour delay, Grenoblois and Oyonnaxiens met this Saturday evening in the Lesdiguières Stadium closed to the public, and in weather conditions closer to a November night than a Saturday in August.
In spite of the rain, both teams managed to put some rhythm in this game. It is the Grenoble players who scored the first points by Karim Qadiri, faster than his defender to recover a kick from Enzo Selponi (7-0, 6'). After a penalty on each side, the Oyomen level the score (10-10, 23'). The first half is balanced and this is reflected on the scoreboard, with a tie score at the break (13-13).
In the second half, the Grenoble players took the lead over their opponents. Lilian Rossi scores quickly after a drive-ball from the " Rouge & Bleu " forwards (20-13, 49'). Efficient in defense and in scrum, the Grenoble players are unfortunately less dangerous during this second period, due in particular to the good defense of the players of the Ain, on the Isère line-outs. But the visitors' defense finally gave way to a nice sequence of Grenoble players and Eric Escande, who found Fabien Guillemin on the closed side. The winger from Grenoble gets the better of his defender and scores the third try of the FCG (25-13, 78').
In spite of a truncated preparation, the Grenoble players won the match. With one week to go before the start of the Pro D2 championship against Nevers at the Stade des Alpes, Stéphane Glas' players had a little bit of confidence.
