Without energy

FCG lost to Aurillac (26-13)

The Grenoble players moved to Aurillac for the first time this season. We were expecting a tough game. It was.

Benito Masilevu had however perfectly launched the game for the "Rouge & Bleu": after a good work of Théo Nanette, then of Alaska Taufa, the latter served the Fijian winger who left to insert his first try with the FCG as of the first minute of the match (0-5, 1'). The Grenoble players were still ahead after 10 minutes of play, despite the first try from Aurillac (7-8, 11'). But, the Grenoble players' machine seized up. Dominating in scrum and on the ball carried, the players of the Stade Aurillacois pressed on these two phases of play to take the score, then the wide, thanks to several penalties and a try (20-8, 40'). Without a solution, the "Rouge & Bleu" were unable to show themselves dangerous.

The second period was barely different: a little better in the conquest, the Grenoble players only conceded "only" 6 points (23-8, 49' then 26-8, 72'), but, they could not ensure enough continuity in their game to approach the opponent's endgame. This finally happened at the very end of the game. After a penalty obtained by the Grenoble pack, the FCG forwards combined on the five-man line, pretending to be a maul, and Thibaut Martel was able to score the final points of the match (26-13, 78').

With this defeat at the opening of the second round of Pro D2, FCG missed the opportunity to take the lead in the championship. The Isère players will now have a good week to prepare for the Montauban reception next Friday at the Stade des Alpes.
