FCG comes home with one point from Vannes

  • Jonathan Bousquet

The "Rouge & Bleu" players grabbed a bonus point at the end of the game (19-14)

The challenge was big for the Grenoble players, in Vannes, at the co-leader's home, undefeated since the beginning of the season. The "Rouge & Bleu" were on defense for long minutes, especially in the first period. And they showed resilience to snatch a defensive bonus point at the end of the game (19-14).

The game was lively from the kick-off. After a good Grenoble players sequence, it is Vannes who manages to find the break, following a clearance from Théo Nanette, countered. On the following touchdown at 5, the locals manage to find the fault in the FCG's defense (7-0, 10'). The locals dominate this first half, but the Grenoble players' defense is very well in place, conceding only one penalty (10-0, 19'). The offensive animation is still struggling.

The second part of the match is more choppy, but Grenoble manages to concretize its incursions in the opposite camp by penalties (10-6, 53'). Unfortunately, the Isèrois are also more undisciplined and never manage to get closer (13-6, 56', 16-6, 65', 19-9, 68'). In the last ten minutes of the game, the FCG has two opportunities to score a try. On the first one, after several playing times, they lose the ball. On the second one, they manage to cross the line, just before the siren: after a big maul, the forwards pound the opponent's line, then the ball is spread on Enzo Selponi who, in the end, scored.

This new defeat in displacement does not allow Grenoble to advance in the classification. But the defensive performance (especially in the first half) and the bonus snatched at the end of the game should allow the Alpine group to regain a little more confidence, before hosting Mont-de-Marsan in 8 days time.
