FCG secures the win

  • Benito Masilevu
  • Ange Capuozzo
  • Romain Fusier

Attractive at the beginning of the second period, more feverish at the end of the game, the FCG managed to ensure the victory against Mont-de-Marsan (24-17)

The "Rouge & Bleu" hosted the Stade Montois, this Friday, in a Stade des Alpes behind closed doors for the second time in a row.

The Montois picked the Isèrois cold, on two touches missed by the FCG forwards. On the first one, in the 22 of Mont-de-Marsan, Christophe Loustalot, former Grenoble players, clears at the foot and finds the touch in the 22 isèrois. On the second one, Lilian Rossi's throw lobbies his line-up and the opponent's hooker, Latterrade can recover and score (0-7, 3').

Behind at the scoreboard after less than 5 minutes of play, the "Rouge & Bleu" try to get their heads back in the right place by taking over the game. They manage to dominate and show themselves to be dangerous but, here a bad choice, there a random foot game, they miss the opportunities. Finally, after a good ball, the locals multiply the game times in the 22 opponents. Angel Capuozzo is found in the interval and the FCG back can score (7-7, 35'). The Grenoble players even have the opportunity to go into the locker room with the advantage, but Jonathan Bousquet's kick goes too far to the left.

The second half starts quite differently. From the first touchdown, the Grenoble players play on the closed side. Clément Ancely sends the ball back inside for Romain Fusier. The Grenoble players' three-quarter center marks his first professional try (14-7, 43'). The "Rouge & Bleu" put the ball back in 10 minutes later: Eric Escande also plays, there, closed side, with Benito Masilevu. The Fijian winger, faster than his opponent, scores his fourth try of the season (21-7, 53').

At game time, the Montois take the game to their account. Blocked on their 22, the Grenoble players were unable to clear their camp, particularly after two balls sent directly to the sidelines. On an umpteenth scrum, the Mont-de-Marsan opener played with his foot in the back of the Grenoble defense and Desaubies could reduce the score (21-14, 64').

Jonathan Bousquet and Mathieu Smaili each score a penalty (24-17, 70'). The Montois push to snatch the bonus or the game draw. Deon Fourie, on a delayed tackle, receives a yellow card, making the task of the Isèrois more complicated. But the latter show great solidarity: first by recovering the ball under their posts, on a contest by Clément Ancely, then by multiplying the pick-and-go in the center of the field for two minutes and, finally, by pushing their opponents to the fault, after having lost the ball 10 seconds from the end.

The FCG thus ensures this victory, the third of the season. The Club moves up to the eighth place in the ranking. The "Rouge & Bleu" will travel to Soyaux-Angoulême next week, to try to win their first off-season victory.
