The Women's Rugby World Cup will be held in New Zealand from 8 October to 12 November. France will open the competition against South Africa at the Eden Park in Auckland. Among the list of 32 players selected by the FFR, 3 from Grenoble.
Alexandra Chambon, Manae Feleu and Emeline Gros play for FCG Amazones, the women's team of the Grenoble club. They play at the highest level of French competition (Elite 1 championship). The FCG allows the players to benefit from the same infrastructure and sports support as the professional men's team. The selection of 3
of them for this major event in world rugby confirms the club's dynamic in favour of women's rugby.
Alexandra CHAMBON (22) - scrum half
Originally from Savoie, she started playing rugby in Montmélian before joining the FCG in the -18 category. Currently a student at Grenoble Ecole de Management, she is also captain of the Amazons. As a young member of the squad, she made her first start at the Stade des Alpes during the 2022 6 Nations Tournament. She now has 6 caps for the Blues.
Manae FELEU (22) - 2nd/3rd row
Originally from Wallis and Futuna, she now plays with her sister Teani at FCG Amazones. Also a student in her 4th year of medicine, this versatile player is the leader of the Grenoble touchline. She was convincing during the last preparation match against Italy and has 3 caps for the French national team.
Emeline GROS (27) - 3rd row
Originally from the Maurienne, Emeline trained with the Amazons before leaving for two seasons with the MHR (Montpellier). Convinced by the club's project, she returned to the FCG this season in the 3rd line position (centre and wing). She has become a key player and has 18 international caps.
Also trained at the club but now playing for Stade Toulousain, we find Maelle Filopon, originally from the Trièves.
Supported by an excellent training and a dynamic project, the FCG congratulates its selected players as well as the sports staff which allows them to evolve on a daily basis in an environment favourable to performance.
"We are very proud of our teammates and what they have achieved so far. They have been working hard for months with a specific goal in mind and to be among the 32 is a real achievement and a great reward for all these months of effort. Beyond wearing the colours of the Nation, they will represent the FCG Amazons at the other end of the world and we thank them for that! It's an enriching experience for them and in hindsight for our team, because as leaders of the game at FCG Amazons, we know that they will make us benefit from it. Charlotte Suillerot, Jade Bonnet and Sana Lagrandeur (Elite 1 players at FCG Amazones).
All of the squad will return to the National Rugby Centre in Marcoussis this Saturday and will fly to Auckland on 21 September. The whole FCG team wishes the Blues a very good World Cup.
