"Reach the post-season!"

The delegate president of the FC Grenoble Rugby wanted to make a point of passage before attacking the last part of the season. He redefines the club's sporting goals as well as the issues for next season

The FCG attack the last quarter of the championship, what is your feeling at the dawn of this final sprint?

"It's obvious that our results have not been satisfactory in the last few weeks. Fortunately, we won in Vannes. This victory in Vannes did us a lot of good. A deserved forceps victory, obtained with courage in the money time. These are the kinds of games that make us grow and that will revive us. "

How do you explain it?

"I think we had a great start to the season. We have to put things in their context. In August we came out of a catastrophic year in which we had only one goal, to save the FCG. Quite frankly, we did not know in what state the team would be at the beginning of the championship, given the many deparatures and the arrival of the new staff. It is clear that the team quickly found cohesion and that the integration of a complete generation of young players was a great success. But I think we were a little overspeeded. We had the good fortune to win some games thanks to our cohesion and our enthusiasm. The young players were at 150% for their first games and after a few months they have to digest the fast pace of the competition. There has been a drop in performance that is quite normal. Unfortunately the entry into the winter was very difficult with the injuries of some important players responsible for supervising our youth and bring the necessary experience.I have heard the word crisis a few times. I assure you, we have never been internally in crisis. Our coaches work hard and well and correct what can be. The group is welded, supportive, and remains ambitious. Simply the requirement of the competition, the quality of our opponents, the harshness of this championship and perhaps a lack of confidence have made our results less good. "

You did not announce a goal at the beginning of the season, but today did you give objectives to the coaches?

"The initial goal was simply to get the smile back, to give pleasure to our environment by playing good games. Obviously with our good start to the season, the qualification and the come-back in Top 14 have become hot topics. Our goal is clearly to win as many games as possible and generate excitement around our young team. Although it is now almost impossible to finish in the first 2 and play a semi-final at home, we want to take the challenge and hang a 3rd or 4th place that would allow us to receive a quarter-final at home. This is the goal clearly set for this end of the season. "

You also learned that Sogeti, who was the biggest sponsor of the Club, would not be a jersey sponsor next year?

" Indeed. However, we did not learn the end of their presence on our jersey this year, but at the end of this famous last season. This situation we had anyway already integrated. It was a strange sensation, like the loss of a member of the family. Sogeti was with us for almost 30 years, it was a long and beautiful story with the heart of this family, Serge Kampf. This separation is the last act of a beautiful human adventure and the end of a cycle. This new cycle that we all open together, we must see as a great opportunity to change our business model and speed up our club project. We will build an ambitious, sustainable and resilient club in the face of sports hazards. Our ambition is of course sports, but much more societal. The FCG is not just a professional team, it's a set of collectives that ranges from Baby Rugby to the First TEam through the Amazons and Quad Rugby. We are convinced that the Club's future will depend on its ability to make sense of its project. "

What about your club project?

"We have been working for more than a year with Éric Pilaud and Daniel Jennepin writing a new project for the FCG. A project that is innovative, differentiating and adapted to our ecosystem. It is a long and difficult job on which all the teams of the club are involved. We hope to be able to give you an outline very quickly, but the pillars of this project are already defined. This is our academy, which must continue to perform in the long term, the control of our infrastructure match day and non-match day and the redesign of our commercial, marketing and communication offer that should allow us to initiate a new development cycle. It must be understood that everything is intimately linked, from the athlete to the administrative, through our training conditions, our training center and our competition stadium. We want to initiate a new phase of growth, a next capital increase will give us the necessary means to achieve it. The FCG is an institution that must refer to its territory. We will officially launch our endowment fund on March 13th. It will carry the societal operations that we have initiated for several years. We have always been pioneers in training and education, and we want to stay that way. "

So you have no worries for next season?

"The worry does not help to go forward. We are lucid, but we remain ambitious. We are working to strengthen the workforce on the areas of improvement we have identified, while being financially prudent. We only have one goal: to have a competitive team! Next season is a first step in the short term, but our work with Eric Pilaud, Daniel Jennepin, and all club members is to put in place the tools necessary for the performance of the FCG for the next 10 years. "
