The Stade Toulousain comes to Grenoble

First opponent of the season at the Stade des Alpes

Twelfth at the end of the 2016-2017 season, the Stade Toulousain did not necessarily have a ranking in line with its standing and its track record. Last season, the Haut-Garonnais had brilliantly caught up, by obtaining the third place of the Top 14, at the end of the regular phase. They were then beaten at home in the play-off by Castres, the future champion (11-23). Ugo Mola took advantage of Thomas Ramos' explosion (best scorer with 277 points) and the performances of his South African winger, Cheslin Kolbe to get this third place. But the Stade Toulousain is not satisfied with this accessit. Untitled since 2012, the Occitan club is a declared candidate for the Brennus!

The star player

Maxime Mermoz returned to France this summer, after a season spent in Newcastle. The former Toulon player, who was a substitute in the first match of the season in Lyon, has chosen to return to his formative club, which has seen several major players leave at the centre: Florian Fritz, Yann David and Gaël Fickou. The Spinalian, who has just returned from an almost white season in England, has the ambition of getting back to the French team for the 2019 World Cup.

The old Grenoblois

There are no former FCG players in the current squad at the Stade Toulousain.

The last match between the 2 teams

During the 2016-2017 Top 14 season, the FCG had won at the Stade des Alpes against Toulouse (26-22), a few days before Christmas.

The last games

The Stade Toulousain had a complicated campaign of preparation, in terms of result, since it lost in Colomiers (26-12) and Perpignan (21-19). Toulouse, on the other hand, had a good performance for the first round of the Top 14, with a draw in Lyon (16-16).

Upcoming matches

After the trip to Grenoble, the Stade Toulousain will return to its Ernest Wallon stadium, with two consecutive receptions: La Rochelle and Racing 92.
