Derby around the corner

First derby of the season in Lyon

After their victory over Perpignan at the Stade des Alpes, the "Rouge & Bleu" are back on the road for the shortest trip of the season, with the derby at Matmut Stadium of Gerland against the LOU.

The star player

Carl Fearns is expected to make his comeback in the Lyon XV on Saturday. Severely injured at the beginning of last season (only 5 games), the number 8 of Lyon had impressed by his power during the previous season (he had been named in the Top 14 Best Player category during the 2017 Rugby Night). He scored a double in the last Top 14 game against FCG at Matmut Stadium in Gerland.

The former Grenoble player

It is sometimes difficult to find old Grenoble players for this small section. For this match, there is a lot to choose from: Albertus Buckle, Richard Choirat, Julien Puricelli, Jonathan Pelissié, Hendrik Roodt, Jonathan Wisniewski and Xavier Mignot have worn the Grenoble jersey. For the last three, it could be their first official match against the FCG (Richard Choirat has already played against Grenoble with Bayonne)

The last match between the 2 teams

The FCG played the very first match at Matmut Stadium in Gerland, LOU version, during the Challenge Cup group phase in January 2017. The "Red & Blue" had lost 57-13 heavily. Peter Kimlin had scored the only Grenoble try of the game.

The last games

Currently seventh in the ranking, the LOU has a balanced record, with 2 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw after 5 games. In the last few matches, Lyon won at Peprignan (16-22), then against Montpellier (55-13), before losing at La Rochelle (30-13)

Upcoming matches

After the derby, the Lyon team will travel to the Paris La Défense Arena and then host the Cardiff Blues for the first day of the Champions Cup.
