Loss in Toulouse

  • Matthieu Ugalde
  • Mike Tadjer

Grenoble lost to the new Top 14 leader

The FCG had a heavy menu for this Sunday, with a trip to Toulouse, which, even without its French internationals, had a particularly dangerous team.

This was the case with Sofiane Guitoune, author of two tries in this match, who was the true metronome of a redesigned three-quarter line.

However, the "Rouge & Bleu" had made a good start to the game, controlling the ball. But, as is often the case, the opposing defence took over from the FCG. Matthieu Ugalde nevertheless opened the scoring with a drop-goal (0-3, 20'). But, in the aftermath, on one of Toulouse's first offensives, Sofiane Guitoune scored her first try with a quickly played penalty (5-3, 26').

After a penalty from Matthieu Ugalde (5-6, 32'), the Toulouse team regained the lead at the very end of the first half (12-6, 39').

If Matthieu Ugalde scores the first points of the second period (12-9, 44'), the Toulouse team will move forward again and play in a manner more in line with their status as Clermont's runner-up, scoring two tries in a row (29-9, 66').

At the end of the match, Mike Tadjer scored the last try of the match (29-16, 80'), his second try of the season (the first having been scored... in the first leg against Toulouse). This try rewards the "Rouge & Bleu" who, even if they return without a point, have played an honourable game with the new leader of the championship.

Despite this defeat, the FCG remains twelfth in the championship, 3 points ahead of Agen and 16 points ahead of Perpignan. The struggle for maintenance will therefore probably be a duel between Grenoble and Agenais
