FCG beaten in Perpignan

  • Gaëtan Germain

Despite the best occasions to score, Grenoble lost in Perpignan (22-16)

The "Rouge & Bleu" had a big game to play this Saturday in Perpignan. On the field the last team of the Top 14, they could go for their first victory since December. But, the Grenoblois lost, despite several occasions, badly negotiated.

The USAP started the game better by quickly scoring a penalty and then a converted try (10-0, 8'). But the Isère players were much better. Despite Etienne Dussartre's serious injury, they managed to equalise and then pass in front thanks to a try by Gaëtan Germain and several kicks from the full-back of the FCG (10-13, 28').

Unfortunately, the Grenoblois were unable to negotiate the end of the first half. They were penalised three times in their camp (with a yellow card for JC Janse Van Rensburg), and Perpignan can go back to the locker room with a 3 points lead (16-13, 40')

The second half is more closed. Between Selponi and Germain's penalties (19-16, 62'), Enzo Selponi even took away the FCG's defensive bonus (22-16, 72'). In the last 10 minutes, the FCG gets a penalty in the 22 opponents and goes to the sidelines. Unfortunately, Etienne Fourcade can't find his jumper. Re-belot on the next line-out. Grenoble's luck has passed....

Perpignan can breathe and celebrate his first home win of the season. The FCG, on the other hand, is stuck in 13th place, before two even more crucial matches to come at Stade des Alpes, against Stade Français and Toulon.
