Back to the Women's Rugby Festival

  • Amazones

On Sunday, May 12, 2019, Stade Lesdiguières hosted the first edition of the Women's Rugby Festival organized by the FCG Amazones. A day open to all, with the aim of promoting women's rugby.

Following a call for projects launched by Grenoble Alpes Métropole to promote women's sport throughout the region, the FCG Amazones had the pleasure of organizing its first Festival du Rugby Féminin to introduce the general public to this discipline.

The day started with a 5-a-side rugby tournament (rugby to touch), 100% girl against 4 teams from the territory: Seyssins, Jarrie, Amazones & FCG. A great first for most of the participants! The Amazons won the tournament after extra time against the Jarroises. The women of the FCG rugby 5-a-side are in third place on the podium, followed by the Seyssins team. At the end of this friendly tournament, the teams shared a drink, a meal and the desire to train together, that's the spirit of rugby!
After a BBQ break, the Coxs (GUC Ladybugs) and Amazons put on their crampons for a 7-a-side rugby demo (a variant of 15-a-side rugby), a game in which uninitiated spectators were able to discover the rugby to tackle.
The FCG Quad Rugby was also on hand to introduce the discipline of adapted rugby, FCG players joined the team to improvise a wheelchair rugby match. A moment of conviviality and sharing that everyone could appreciate.
Throughout the day, young and old alike participated in the various initiations (quad rugby, footwork, tackle, passes...) and enjoyed the activities (inflatable game, barbapapa stand, photo booth...).
Some curious people, who first came as spectators, improvised themselves into rugby (wo) men during the introductory touch rugby matches that closed this beautiful day.

In addition to the sporting aspect; the Women's Cancer Centre of the University Hospital of Grenoble, sponsored by the Amazons, and the Venus project (artistic project for the prevention of breast cancer) participated in this day (stand & exhibition of works) to raise awareness among the general public about women's cancers. The artist Boye has created a live painting, a work dedicated by the Amazons and available at the next auction of the Venus project.

The FCG Amazones would like to thank all the volunteers who attended this first event.
