A trip to Aurillac to start the year

The ice derby, according to some

There are certain moves that players and fans prefer. The one in Aurillac, at the beginning of January, is probably not one of them, even for Anthony Alves and Theo Nanette, the former cantalous. The "Rouge & Bleu" had suffered a severe defeat there two seasons ago, a defeat that marked the beginning of a complicated winter for the Grenoble players.

The challenge awaiting Stéphane Glas' players will not be limited to the weather conditions. Aurillac, who had been beaten at the Stade des Alpes a few weeks ago, had shown certain qualities, which the final score (35-13) did not necessarily reflect. Nevertheless, the Cantalous are in trouble this season: 14th in the championship, with 22 points, Aurillac is only 3 lengths ahead of Rouen, the first relegated team. It is notably in defence (the second worst in Pro D2), that Aurillac has been struggling since the start of the season.

On the offensive front, they can count on Shaun Adendorff, co-leading scorer of 8 tries, to stay out of the red zone. However, the South African third row will be absent this weekend, having been suspended for three weeks following their red card against Oyonnax.

The Grenoble side's win over Oyonnax has given a boost to the heart of a squad that is set to get thicker, with the return of several players who have been injured in recent weeks and even months. Anthony Alves, for example, could return to the competition against his former club. Tomorrow's response will come tomorrow, with the announcement of the team composition on fcgrugby.com.

Latest results

Before the truce, Aurillac put in some good performances, picking up a defensive bonus in Carcassonne (21-16), winning at home against Oyonnax (15-12), then earning another defensive bonus in Nevers (21-20).

The next games

Aurillac will play in Perpignan after the reception in Grenoble, then will host Rouen, before going to Mont-de-Marsan.

The last Aurillac - FCG

FCG lost heavily in the Cantal two seasons ago (30-14), on 1 December 2017. Ali Oz and Adrien Latorre had scored both Grenoble's tries.
