Short victory for Grenoble

Grenoble was keen to win in Aurillac to start the year 2020 and remain among the leaders in the rankings.

It is on the pitch of Aurillac that FC Grenoble moved this Friday, in a Jean Alric stadium with winter temperatures. Aurillac, who had just returned from a narrow defeat at Nevers (21-20), and the first non-legendary in the ProD2 championship, had made clear its ambition to go for another victory at home, after overcoming Oyonnax (15-12) on Matchday 14. FCG, for their part, began a difficult fifth block at Aurillac with three trips to a reception. Thierry Peuchlestrade's men had the ball in their sights from the start of the match, and it was Thierry Peuchlestrade's men who got their hands on the ball. FCG quickly got into trouble and conceded two penalties (2" then 7") and was 6-0 down. The cantalous will be dangerous at the beginning of the game and will camp several times in the 40m Grenoble without being able to score. Under pressure, FCG will be fouled and receive a yellow card (14", high tackle, Taleta Tupuola).
At the end of the first half, FCG put their hand on the ball and reversed the pressure. Corentin Glénat, precise at the foot, equalised (penalty then drop, 20"). The Grenoble giants were unable to score in the first half, but the Iberians led 6-12 after the break, and the Cantaloupes were back from the break with a new look and put the Grenoble forwards, who were struggling in the scrum area, to the test. Shortly after the restart, Pierre Roussel scored the first try of the game (48", Aurillac 11, FCG 12).
Midway through the second half, Stephane Glas' men put the pressure back on Aurillac's team but were clumsy and impatient. On several occasions, FCG stormed into the Cantalous camp without scoring a single point. Aurillac came back into the lead in the 65th minute with another penalty from Salles (14-12), but it was not until Enzo Selponi's 70th-minute comeback that FCG were back in the game. It was only after Enzo Selponi's 70th-minute comeback that FCG were back in the game, with the No10 substitute Ange Capuozzo making a breakthrough and flattening a decisive corner kick (74'). Enzo Selponi converted and Grenoble took the lead (14-19). The scoreline did not change any further and Grenoble won the game in Auvergne in a dusty match in which neither side showed their best side. Thanks to this first victory in 2020, Grenoble remains co-leader of the ProD2 championship on equal footing with Perpignan at 53pts. Aurillac, for its part, remains last non-legible at 23pts with only three small points ahead of Rouen.
