"Control what we can control"

  • Steven Setephano

Steven Setephano, returns to the Grenoble XV after several injuries that kept him out of the field for 3 months

What injuries did you pick since your last game?

“The match against Stade Français, in the warmup, I strained my abductor, so that was the first injury. And then on top of that, I had a calf injury. And then redid my calf injury about three weeks ago. So it's been a frustrating time on the sidelines. But the body's healed. It's very good now.”

No victory in three months

“Obviously, it's been a difficult time for for the club, for the team. Especially those players that have played in the three months. For myself, Obviously trying to get back onto the field and back with the group has been my thought process and my priority. I just sort of feel for the boys but we worked on a lot of things during that time and hopefully these last six or seven games that we'll play, we look to progress forward.”

How did you play your role of skipper during your time out of the field?

“Yes, like I said, it's obviously being pretty difficult for me to really contribute. 100% of my focus has been to get my body right and come back onto the field as fast as I can but wherever I can give advice to individuals or collectively. That's what I've been able to do but for the most part of it, there have been some great other personnel within the squad that's really led the team. $ It's just been unfortunate that, you know, we haven't had a win, which as you know can be difficult for a group.”

With Leva Fifita and Loïc Godener, you will bring some freshness within the team

“I think it's important to note that with the three of us coming back, for us three, it's about bringing the energy and obviously we're all excited to be back with the group. So there is excitement there and to finish the season strong because also for us three, it's just about how we can contribute to what the team has already been doing. There's some great stuff that the team's been doing, but there's also some work on set we need to address. For us it was just important that we come into the group and just do the basics really well.”

What is our opinion on Stade Français?

“Yeah, they're a good side and aside that, when you're given them ball and they can play, they can beat any team on a day. They're also side that show that they are vulnerable to lose games. So like I said before, it's important that this group, take the field on set day, we stick together and we stick to the game plan and we move forward as group. We're just excited about that set day and look forward to the challenge.”

Agen is 9 points ahead the FCG. You can't make any mistake now.

“We've talked about that as a group. I think it's important to know that we can't really control what Agen are doing on their side, obviously. We want to finish the season strong and knowing that the 13th place will play the barrage match, our focus has been in week by week, in game by game. So we have a challenge in front of us at the moment and it is Stade Français. We're just looking forward to Stade Français and producing a good performance that we can be proud of.”

Like last year, winter was hard. You need to do the same spring.

“My whole time here it seems to be the case. We find it a bit difficult in the winter periods, but Top 14 is a tough competition. Every team is looking to beat each other. We just want to make sure that we can control what we can control on the field and off the field and at training. If we can come as one, as a group on set day, you know, we'll be searching for nothing but a good performance.”
