Maintien and medium term projects

The three things to retain from Michel Martinez interview with the press

We believe in the maintien

"The maintien is the top priority of the club today. All our energy, all the energy of the players and staff are focused on this objective. We are well aware that we are in a difficult time, but we firmly believe in this maintien. But, I would like to remind you that we are very lucky to be in Top 14 and that we are very happy to be in Top 14. A year ago, at the same time, we weren't even sure we would have a quarter-final at home and we were under incredible pressure. We stayed in the race, and we know what happened next. We are therefore very happy to be in Top 14 and to still have the chance to stay there. Top 14 is an accelerator for our Club project. There are six games left. We are in the hunter's position and we must look ahead, even if we must also be careful with USAP which is just behind. We want to be optimistic because we will recover for this match against the Stade Français, but also in the next 15 days from players who will be fresh and who will bring us a wind of mental freshness. But be careful, rugby is the ultimate team sport. There is no messiah, we'll win together at 23."

"In this difficult time we need our 16th man, our fans. We know that, to win games, we need to be at 120% and it is this public that can allow us to be there. We need an electroshock, and the only electroshock we can get is victory. The maintien will be played around 35 points whereas a few years ago, it was never played at less than 50 points. There is a huge evolution with a 2-speed championship in which about ten teams flirt with the salary cap (around 11 million euros of payroll) while 3 teams (including the FCG) are between 6 and 7 million euros. When I see our team competing against teams that have almost twice the payroll, I am very proud of what our players are doing, really proud. "

"We're fighting in this Top 14 against teams that have disproportionate resources compared to ours. Our challenge for the coming years to compete tomorrow in this Top 14 and perpetuate the club at this level is to work to free up more resources. Our ambition is to seek a budget of around 22-23 million euros per year. "

We have initiated the redeployment of the FCG

"We rely on our DNA, which is of course our training and by allocating resources to this training to be even more effective. We have repositioned the FCG as a real institution, a locally anchored club, the Club of the Alps. Only one club, from rugby school kids to professionals players. "

"We also continue to rely on our network of partners who have been loyal to us for years, on a public that supports us despite our results. We are at 12,500 spectators on average, which puts us around the eighth peak of the Top 14. The public satisfaction will be one of the club's major challenges in the years to come. "

"Finally, we have a team of shareholders, investors, but I would rather call them builders, who have joined us in the off-season and who will allow us to build this sustainable and solid club that we all want. They are all Grenoble entrepreneurs who are committed to their territory. They are at our side, taking strategic decisions with us. They bring us the benefit of their networks and also their daily skills. "

"For next season, we are starting to work, in partnership with the Metro and the GF38, to rebuild the kiosks at the Stade des Alpes, which are not suitable for our fans. The objective will be to have more efficient, comfortable and attractive kiosk. It is a true tripartite collaboration that allows us to launch this project. They complement the new lawn and the quick access controls that have been reactivated at the stadium. Things are moving in the right direction and many subjects are moving forward. This is not an anecdotal thing, these are priority developments for us. "

"We will also rehabilitate the entire training hall to make it more suitable, brighter and less energy-consuming. With a change of the hull that will allow light to enter and be better insulated. It is an important investment to stay attractive to young players and to allow our players to train in the best conditions. Work will begin in May. This work foreshadows our major project "Planète FCG"."

Planète FCG

"Planète FCG is a medium-term project. This is one of the cornerstones of our club project, which should allow us to generate new revenues to increase our budget. Planète FCG is a project that will take place on the Lesdiguières site instead of the Tennis Tribune. It will be a 5,000 m2 building (2,500 m2 on 2 floors). It will integrate our new training and performance centre, but also event spaces outside matches as well as additional leisure shops and places. "

"Even if everything is not yet finalized, Planète FCG will integrate the club's restaurant and a gaming area to echo the Esport team we launched this week. We are working on this issue hand in hand with the communities in our territory. For the timing we are targeting June 2021 for a budget of between 7 and 8 million euros. Planète FCG will allow us to offer our players the best possible training conditions while generating additional revenues that will allow us to be more competitive. "

"There is a notion that is fundamental in this project: the notion of diversity and proximity. Uniquely, this centre will not be a closed centre. It will be open to the city, open to all audiences. We will not put athletes on one side and the public on the other. It will be a real place to live where everyone will meet and share the same activities. Sportsmen will therefore meet the visitors of Planète FCG on a daily basis. "
